Interviews with our STEP trainees
#1. What motivates you?
My motives are family, health, and belonging.
#2. Tell us about an accomplishment you are most proud of.
The ability to transform, adapt, and blend into an environment that is completely new, with success.
#3. Are you enjoying the trainee experience? What’s the most interesting thing in TK Elevator you’ve seen so far?
I am very much enjoying the training experience. The most interesting thing I have seen so far would be the processes that go into the installation of a new elevator into a new building that has not yet finished it’s construction.
#4. What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I like to hit the gym, BBQ, fishing, and spend time with my German Shepherd.
#5. Describe a phrase or message that motivates you and can inspire our team:
“You can never be over educated, over prepared, or overdressed”
"I was born and raised in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida, so moving to Fort Lauderdale has been nothing short of a breeze for me. I graduated from Florida State University (Go Noles!) this past April and quickly after I started with TK Elevator in June. Although my summer break was super short, I spent lots of quality time with family and friends before I started my new “adult” life."
#1. What motivates you?
Overcoming uncomfortable situations is what motivates me the most. There is nothing better than the feeling of conquering a tough situation that I once thought I was unable to do. This leaves me craving more and pushes myself beyond my comfort zone. No matter the situation big or small, the feeling of dominating a challenging task keeps me going.
#2. Tell us about an accomplishment you are most proud of.
When I think of an accomplishment that I am proud of, the first thing comes to mind is my first day in the field with New Installation. Let me paint the picture for you… I am walking up to the construction site wearing all my PPE looking like a lost puppy. This particular job was a 30-story building being built right on the beach. As I walk up, I see that I am the only woman in the entire building, and it feels like everyone is blatantly staring at me. Being such a big job, there were a ton of other trades there; making me feel even more outnumbered than I already was. As you can imagine, I start to panic and walk around frantically trying to find anyone with the familiar TKE logo.
However this accomplishment may seem small or unordinary, it proved that I can do anything no matter how hard it is on me. This ultimately gave me the confidence that I need going forward in this industry. Ever since I have accomplished this, I am able to walk into any jobsite with confidence, and I’ve also found that I’ve been instilling this confidence in my day-to-day life.
#3. Are you enjoying the trainee experience? What’s the most interesting thing in TKE you’ve seen so far?
Although it’s been only 2 short months, my training experience has been nothing but great. We started off the training program with a week-long trip Atlanta to see the new headquarters while meeting all my peers. Since then, I have been partaking in field training with New Installation, Modernization, and Repair. Our mechanics have welcomed me with open arms and have taught me so much knowledge that I look forward to use. During my field training, I have seen so many interesting things. Not many people that I know can say they have ridden on top of an elevator. I was able to go on the roof of one of the tallest buildings in Miami, the Four Seasons Brickell. About 70 floors up, during sunrise, looking over all of Miami, I have truly never seen anything like it. The view did not look real!
#4. What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to keep myself busy outside of work and on the weekends. My friends and I like going to the beach, going on walks, and eating great food. I’m lucky to have a lot of my FSU friends down here with me. We’ve been loving the Brightline which makes it easy to explore different cities in the area.
#5. Describe a phrase or message that motivates you and can inspire our team:
Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
